Friday 8th May was set to see a range of events take place across the United Kingdom to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Unfortunately, none of these events are able to go ahead as planned, so we have put together a list of some of the programmes on TV and online, along with a special event of our own, that you can join in with to celebrate the occasion.
On the day we will also be delivering Cream Teas to some of the elderly and vulnerable members of our community. Our hope is to bring a smile and a treat to those most affected by self-isolation.
Six hundred people who have spent nearly seven weeks at home have been identified through the various organisations that make up the Street Community Support Group. You can get involved by sponsoring a Cream Tea for someone in your community. For just £2 you will be helping to brighten someone's day and spreading a little good cheer which is so desperately needed at this time. You can sponsor through JustGiving here: justgiving.com/fundraising/louise-melia1
We encourage you to join us all in our celebration at 3.30pm with your own Cream Tea - homemade or shop bought! You can take pictures of your celebrations and post them on social media with #veday75street so we can all unite in marking this special occasion.
